MySQL Consulting Companies
Has anyone else noticed that almost all of the consulting companies that support MySQL (and blog) start with a 'P'? (Percona, Pythian, Proven Scaling). I think OpenQuery needs a name change to keep up with the market. Even though 'O' is the letter next to 'P' in the alphabet, it requires more than one bit flip - so it's not that close.

But I like the O. And it is open, which is quite important.

And hey, all of us are well "beyond" the M ;-)

I don't think Open Query is that open. Are your training materials under GPL?

Well docs are not covered by GPL, it'd have to be GDPL or CC or something.

The OQ training materials are currently available to all OQ students (regardless of whether they've done that particular module). Not under any of the above licenses though, yet. The issue is that unfortunately, many people think that having the materials equates to the training itself. People who've actually been to an OQ training don't have that delusion ;-)

We'd love to do it though, and see Perl Training Australia as a shining example - all their materials are CC. The difference is that they operate in a slightly different space, and have a longer track record as a company.

Why not an AbsoluteSQL or Qbsolute Query? this give "AB" the garanty or almost to be the first company in any kind of yellow page / anything similar...

Of course, google doesn't give a shit about alphabetical order, but who's the vast majority of people going to search about yourself, being a letter ahead isn't a bad «paris» in french, it's friday night, beer, ...

(«paris» is bet, i've found it)

xdecock won't put anything here gmail because of spam com

As shown in the recent OpenSQL Camp, 42SQL takes the cake for being the first in the alphabetical list.

Maybe you are right, making some effort to get another name may be worth it. Having a distinguishable name can really catch people's attention stay longer in people's minds.
